Critical Care Operations

LEANS ROUNDS and Flow of the Day

ICU Huddle at 08:45 AM

  • All team members meet at the White Board in the front of the ICU (By ICU Bed 2) with the Attendings.
  • The ICU Huddle is led by the Charge Nurse for the Day.
  • This is primarily a Situational Awareness meeting
  • The Charge Nurse will update the teams regarding pending admissions
  • The ICU Fellows will make the group aware of ICU Downgrades, potential extubations, planned procedures, and FIRES.
  • Red and Blue team Fellows will determine where there respective team will start rounds.

Lean Rounds

  • You NEED to know the details!
  • You NEED to be systematic. Every patient. Every time!
  • You NEED to be efficient!

Here’s the Script

 

After Rounds

  • Execute items discussed on rounds
    • Perform Procedures
    • Follow-up on Labs
    • Call consults
  • Most Attending’s will do afternoon or check-out rounds around 4-5PM.
  • After check out rounds the short call resident leaves unless work is not done or the team is still actively managing patients.
  • The long call resident stays until sign-out at 1900
