Critical Care Operations

Staffing

24 Hour Call

  • Residents will typically be scheduled for one 24 hour shift per week while working ICU days.
  • This means the next day the team will have one less resident.
  • The resident on call should write progress notes for their patients overnight for daily rounds the next day.
  • The next day the Intern will round with the Attending and Fellow

You are NOT Alone

Weekends

  • 0700 until 1900
  • There will be one house staff per team on weekends.
  • There will be one Fellow for the ENTIRE ICU
  • The Fellow will USUALLY round with the Intern
  • Resident will round with the Attending for their team
  • More informal so usually no huddle, but rounds typically start around 0900.

Nights

  • 1900 for sign out in the ICU conference room until 0700
  • Staffing is usually one Resident and one Intern
  • ICU Fellow for the Viner ICU will handle all patient inside and OUTSIDE the ICU when the consult fellow leaves at 0300 and all night Saturday and Sunday.
  • You should usually expect quick bedside rounds depending upon how busy the night is.
  • Night Intern and Resident are expected to write half of the progress notes for the Red and Blue teams FRIDAY and SATURDAY.

INCU

The pleasure of covering the INCU belongs to the Night Resident from 0300-0700 and ALL Night Saturday and Sunday!
